ProjectsWelsh Learners

The Mentrau Iaith have a very important role to play in the field of community development in relation to Welsh learners. It is essential that Welsh learners in the community receive support. If this does not happen, there is a danger that Welsh learners will not develop into fluent Welsh speakers.

Ensuring the prosperity of the Welsh Language is central to the remit of the Mentrau Iaith, and with this in mind we now need to consider ways of co-operating with and including learners in social and community based activities.

Ensuring learners’ understanding of their specific area, along with raising their level of awareness of places that they can learn the language, will in the long term ensure a future for the language, and at the end of the day – that is our overall aim.

All the Mentrau Iaith organise different activities to enable learners to socialise together and with Welsh speakers.
One example of such an event, which is very popular and common amongst the Mentrau, is the ‘Sadwrn Siarad’ or ‘Sesiwn Siarad’, which is an informal opportunity for learners to get together to chat over a cup of tea.

For more information about these sessions, and all the activities organised by the individual Mentrau, please check out the page of your local Menter Iaith.
