Children and Young People
Ensuring opportunities for children and young people to socialise through the medium of Welsh is one of North Wales Language Initiatives main aims.
We’re all co-operating with our partners, TWF, Mudiad Ysgolion Meithrin, the Urdd, and Young Farmers to promote this important work. We feel that promoting the benefits of raising children bilingually, and creating opportunities to use the language outside of the school and home is essential to the development of Wales’s children and young people.
While Welsh and bilingual medium education is available to every child in Wales, the Language Initiatives hope to expand on this education, by developing children and young people’s experiences outside of the class room. In some areas, over 95% of pupils in Welsh medium schools come from Non Welsh speaking homes. Creating social opportunities through the medium of Welsh is essential to normalize the language amongst our youth.
Each Language Initiative reflects their local community and responds to the linguistic and social needs of those communities. Among the services provided by the Language Initiatives for children and young people are:
- Holiday Clubs
- Youth Theatre
- Battle of the Bands C2 Radio Cymru
- Bandit Tour S4C
- Gigs and promoting the Welsh Rock Scene
- Rock and Pop Workshops, Hip Hop and Digital Sound
- Youth Forums
- Various Festivals, for instance Gŵyl Cefni, Llanast Llanrwst, Gŵyl Cadi Ha and Ffiesta
- Sir y Fflint
